Held Before is a South Carolina based small business offering authentic ancient coins and historical objects. Each item was once used in real life by someone long before us and has survived to be held again today.



Are the coins and artifacts authentic?

Yes. Every item is carefully curated and authenticated with expert review and established historical references. We stand behind the authenticity of everything we sell.

How old are the items you sell?

Most of our items range from hundreds to over two thousand years old, depending on the era. Each product page includes the approximate date range and historical context.



How is it possible to own something this old?

These were everyday objects, made and used in huge numbers by ordinary people, much like similar items we use and carry today. It’s one of the oldest continuously traded markets in the world.



Who originally used these coins?

Ordinary people, across centuries.

Soldiers. Merchants. Travelers. Families.

These weren’t made as collectibles. They were everyday tools used for food, rent, trade, survival, and life.



Will the item look exactly like the photos?

It depends on the item.

For our individual coins, you’ll receive the exact item shown unless otherwise stated.

For group coins, you will receive 1 random coin from the group pictured, unless otherwise stated. 



Can I handle the item, or will it be damaged?

You can absolutely hold it.

These objects have survived centuries of handling. Normal, respectful handling will not harm them. We include care guidance when appropriate.



How fast do orders ship?

We guarantee that all orders ship within 72 hours (3 business days).

Most orders ship sooner. Once shipped, you’ll receive tracking information by email.



Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship worldwide where permitted.

International orders may be subject to customs fees, duties, or delays depending on your country’s regulations. These charges are the responsibility of the buyer.



What if my order arrives damaged or incorrect?

If your order arrives damaged, incomplete, or incorrect, contact us within 14 days of delivery.

We’ll fix it quickly, whether that means a replacement, refund, or another solution that works best for you.



What is your return policy?

We offer 30-day returns.

If you’re not satisfied for any reason, reach out within 30 days of delivery. Once the item is returned and inspected, we’ll issue a refund to your original payment method.

Are these items legal to own?

Yes. All items we sell are legally owned and sold under applicable laws. We avoid restricted cultural property and work only with reputable sources.



Why are some items more worn than others?

Wear is part of the story.

Scratches, smoothing, and uneven edges are signs that an object was used, carried, and lived with. Condition is described clearly on each product page.
